The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated shift to remote workforce have significantly changed how corporations are designing their next-generation networks. These new paradigms are accelerating cloud application adoption, collaboration tool usage, remote worker VPN needs, and the overall Internet security model. But our existing wide area networks were generally built for a centralized HQ/DC model. Because they were not designed for such distributed worksites and workloads, existing technology stacks are sometimes experiencing unmanageable strain. New tools like SD-WAN, cloud remote worker VPN, cloud UTM/firewall, and CASB, are quickly becoming the new enabling platforms. This presentation introduces the new paradigm of SASE: the Secure Access Security Edge.
